JOEL JUAREZ
recently produced and directed his feature film debut GEneRATiOn| laSt and is in pre production on his second feature length film. He is also directing music videos and commercials for US and Mexican production companies. He has established himself among the new filmmakers after graduating from the prestigious UCLA School of Film & TV where he earned an MFA in Directing. Joel is a prolific filmmaker, his films have aired on Showtime Networks. Discovery Channel, MTV, PBS, Univision, TV Azteca America, and was awarded two DGA Awards and the coveted UCLA Spotlight Award.
2012 greets Joel with an invitation to be part of the DGA Latino Mentorship Program, a program through which he has shadowed directors on GREY’s ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE, THE UNIT, CRIMINAL MINDS and SOUTHLAND.
Previously, he produced and directed two pilots of SIN CONDENA a one hour crime drama for TV Azteca America and a 30 minute reality show pilot THE ADVENTUROUS CHEF, a cooking & extreme-sports adventure show.
Joel has established himself among the new filmmakers. Labeled an "Auteur-to-watch" by the Los Angeles Magazine, his comedy, PELEA DE GALLOS, (The Cock Fight), was nominated for the Student Oscars 2005, premiered on Showtime Networks, and won Best Short Film at several International Film Festivals, and was awarded his second Director’s Guild of America Student Award.
He is a prolific filmmaker, whose style ranges from the poetic; SIN AZUL, which aired on PBS and was awarded his first DGA Award and the UCLA Spotlight Award. His documentary EATING INSECTS aired on Showtime Networks, 2006 - 2008. And was invited to the Sundance Film Festival 2007 as part of Kodak’s Emerging Filmmakers Program.
